The Cook Islands are named after the first European to land there in the 18th Century, Captain Cook. It is now an independent state with a small population and are fiercely protective of their rich cultural heritage. Rarotonga isthe largest of the Cook Islands and the name appropriately means "South". Although the largest island, is still small, and you can finish the trip on the island by car in less than an hour. Diving Cook Island is mostly loose and relaxed, reef dives, wreck but there are some opportunities. Rarotonga is surrounded by a lagoon that offers an ideal environment for snorkeling. If you venture over the lagoon, diving will be more exciting as the Cook Islands is home to many caves,Gorges and tunnels. The island is best avoided from November to March during the hurricane season, but from July to October are the ideal time to visit, such as the humpback whale season. When diving in the Cook Islands were held, a variety of marine life, including for meeting the wonderful mantra rays, barracuda and marlin, as well as Spanish dancers, sail fish and turtles. The numerous species of corals are unfortunately invasion of destructive crown of thorns starfish, but recentCulling has been successful.
